NHU’s Power Supplier Adds New Members (10/4/01) New Holstein’s power supplier, Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI), has added three more community-owned electric utilities as member-owners of the Sun Prairie-based power company. The WPPI Board of Directors on October 4 unanimously approved applications for full membership to the nonprofit municipal electric utilities from the Brodhead Water & Light Commission, the Prairie du Sac Electric Department, and the Richland Center Electric Utility. This spring, the WPPI Board of Directors also approved membership applications from the municipal utilities serving Oconto Falls and Reedsburg. Member owners of WPPI are the communities of Algoma, Black River Falls, Boscobel, Brodhead, Cedarburg, Columbus, Cuba City, Eagle River, Florence, Hartford, Hustisford, Jefferson, Kaukauna, Lake Mills, Lodi, Menasha, Muscoda, New Holstein, New London, New Richmond, Oconomowoc, Oconto Falls, Prairie du Sac, Reedsburg, Richland Center, River Falls, Slinger, Sturgeon Bay, Sun Prairie, Two Rivers, Waterloo, Waunakee, Waupun, Westby and Whitehall. WPPI supplies electricity and support services to the thirty-five Wisconsin community-owned utilities serving more than 123,000 customers. With the five new members added this year, WPPI’s load has increased more than 13 percent. WPPI now supplies power to 56 percent of the load served by municipal electric systems in Wisconsin, based on energy sales. WPPI is Wisconsin’s fifth-largest power company. Through our ownership in WPPI, New Holstein Utilities is able to provide our customers with low-cost and reliable electric service. WPPI also assists NHU in providing quality, cost-efficient programs and services to our customers. |
