The Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources (WDNR) is requiring that all public and private water lead service laterals be removed from the City of New Holstein by October 8, 2022. Phase 1 of this project was completed in 2021; Phase 2 will be completed in 2022. All property owners impacted should have recently received a letter from NHU about meetings to be held that will explain the project.
If you own a property on or north of Illinois Ave and haven’t received a letter, we have your property identified as being served by a copper or plastic water lateral. If you believe this in incorrect, please contact the NHU Office as soon as possible and will verify your service lateral. Grant money is only available this year.
The 2022 project will include close to 100 excavations in streets located throughout the City of New Holstein. The project is scheduled to begin the second week of April, with excavations continuing through the end of July. We are asking that citizens be aware of signage, heavy equipment, and on-going construction on the streets. After the excavation is completed in the street, the excavated area will be backfilled, compacted, and filled with gravel. After the project is totally completed, the excavated areas will be asphalted.
Please be cautious and slow your vehicle speed down as you travel through these work areas during the spring and summer. Safe travel in these work zones will help prevent issues from occurring. Thank you.
